Job Description
As a Victim Advocate (VA) for our organization, you will play a crucial role in providing compassionate support and advocacy to adult victims of sexual assault and sexual harassment. You will work closely with victims to assess safety concerns, inform them of available resources, and empower them to navigate their recovery journey. This position involves collaborating with law enforcement, medical professionals, and legal entities to ensure victims' needs are met and their rights protected.
Duties:
Provide non-clinical support and crisis intervention to adult victims of sexual assault and sexual harassment.
Inform victims of available reporting options and resources, encouraging self-advocacy and goal-setting for recovery.
Advocate for victims' interests with intervening agencies, including law enforcement, medical, and legal services.
Conduct risk assessments to address immediate safety concerns and determine appropriate support levels.
Accompany victims to appointments, interviews, and court proceedings as requested.
Assist in the development and delivery of sexual harassment prevention training programs.
Document service delivery and maintain accurate records in our management information system.
Provide 24/7 support as part of our SAPR watch bill rotation.
Collaborate with the Sexual Assault Response Coordinator (SARC) to coordinate comprehensive victim services across various agencies.
Conduct training sessions on sexual assault prevention and response as required.
Support the SARC in developing and promoting SAPR prevention and awareness campaigns.
Qualifications:
Must be a US Citizen and meet federal employment suitability requirements.
Experience providing non-clinical support to victims of sexual assault and harassment is required.
Familiarity with community resources, social services, and victim advocacy principles.
Strong communication skills to build rapport and trust with diverse individuals and backgrounds.
Ability to handle confidential information with sensitivity and professionalism.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to use management information systems for data entry and reporting.
Completion of Defense Sexual Assault Advocate Certification Program (D-SAACP) or willingness to obtain it.
Must maintain a current valid US driver's license and may be required to travel occasionally.
