Located in the center of San Mateo just minutes south of the San Francisco Airport, Episcopal Day School is a vibrant, pre-Kindergarten through eighth grade, co-educational, Episcopal school with 310 students. The beautiful historic Episcopal Church centers the campus – physically and metaphorically. Students begin their days in Chapel services three days a week, and a hallmark of the Episcopal Day School experience is delivering an Eighth Grade Chapel Talk. Episcopal Day students are known for their grace and their eloquence, for their innocence and their maturity. We are devoted to a top-notch academic program that fosters critical inquiry and develops excellent writers, collaborators, problem solvers, and creators. The Mustangs shine on the athletic field and on the stage. Episcopal Day families are partners in the work of the School. Together, we raise children to be deep thinkers and socially responsible and civically engaged young adults. Our students matriculate at excellent high schools through the Bay Area and return as alumni proud of their accomplishments and deeply connected to their roots at Episcopal Day School.

About Episcopal Day School of St. Matthew
Our Profile Since 1953, Episcopal Day has educated students to begin with inquiry. Taught to question, our students learn through reason. This tenet of an Episcopal education prepares our students for education in and beyond all school walls. This is an open community. One that finds a diversity of backgrounds and cultures a fitting way to enhance our children's lives, education, and experiences. Our dedication to Service Learning in our community allows our students to recognize the importance of responsibility that comes with leading. This gained perspective shows that respect and service to others are essential elements of the world that will ultimately be theirs. PRE-K THROUGH 8TH GRADE While young children benefit from the mentoring of older students, the older children enjoy opportunities for leadership and responsibility. The connections that develop among students in a pre-kindergarten-to-eighth-grade environment build confidence and allow children to be themselves and take risks in a safe space. THE VALUE OF COMMUNITY We instill in students the social and emotional skills for effectiveness in school and in life. Our Responsive Classroom approach ensures consist ... ency across grades and classrooms. School Families and cross-grade student buddies help build relationships across grade levels. These skills powerfully enhance learning. A SPIRITUAL FOUNDATION As an Episcopal school, we support the spiritual lives of children in an open and inclusive context. Students begin the day in a welcoming chapel service that builds community and teaches quiet reflection. OUTREACH TO OTHERS Through a robust Service Learning program, children experience the value of giving back. Our curriculum and service opportunities reinforce one another, leading to deeper reflection. Students engage in service to local, regional, and global communities, connecting them to a purpose larger than themselves. LEADERSHIP BY EXAMPLE The legacy of an Episcopal Day education is seen in our graduates: academic skills, self-knowledge, and enduring values – and the confidence to put them to use. We are living our mission every day.
