Full job description

  • Requires thorough knowledge of behavioral health services, qualitative social science methods, epidemiology, public health, intermediate and advanced statistical procedures (inferential through multivariate analysis)
  • Review and analyze problems, and develops research/evaluation tools and methods of data collection and designs applied research projects related to substance abuse and mental health epidemiology
  • Assist in the implementation and coordination of all research efforts of the Ohio Substance Abuse Monitoring Network (OSAM) for the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (OhioMHAS)
  • Represent OhioMHAS with outside entities to provide state and federal agencies and communities with information related to drug use and behavioral health service trends across Ohio, with the intent of assisting constituents in making administrative decisions about behavioral health service planning and policies
  • Conduct OSAM research and analysis (including data collection) in accordance with the OSAM research collection methodology
  • Assist in the preparation of all OSAM research reports
  • Conduct Focus Groups/interviews for various OSAM research initiatives on an ongoing basis
  • Assist in the collection of statistical data and analysis of qualitative data for the presentation of findings to be delivered to state-level and department-level leadership
  • Represent OSAM through interaction with substance abuse prevention and treatment constituency groups
  • Serve as technical advisor in the area of behavioral health and epidemiological research by keeping interested parties abreast of findings and responding to requests for data and training
  • Assist in the presentation of information to all interested parties regarding the OSAM program development, progress and results
  • Prepare and distributes OSAM information
  • Organize and implement studies and processes to be used during analysis
  • Implement solutions to problems studied
  • Assist in and/or develops new systems, polices and/or programs to increase agency efficiency and effectiveness
  • Represent agency as topical expert in meetings and conferences related to substance abuse and mental health trends in Ohio
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Completion of undergraduate core coursework & 12 mos. exp. in one of following: health services administration, mathematics, statistics, actuarial science, public administration, allied health sciences, nursing, economics, public health, or comparable field; 12 mos. trg. or 12 mos. exp. in research methodology, measurement & testing, analysis of variance & survey sampling; 6 mos. trg. or 6 mos. exp. in use of computer programs/applications used for spreadsheets, statistical analysis & graphics presentation & word processing; 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in multiple regression or multivariate analysis.
