Class 1 Driver . Reporting to the Transportation Manager, our Drivers are responsible for safely operating truck and trailer combinations throughout the city and surrounding areas to pick up and deliver bins to customer sites.
The hours for this position are Monday to Friday from 6:30 AM until dispatch is done, approximately between 3:00 and 6:00 PM, and alternating Saturdays from 6:30 AM to 1:00 PM. There may be some overtime hours, workload dependent.
The starting hourly rate is $28.00.
Key Responsibilities - Operate and drive tractor-trailer, long-combination vehicle and straight body trucks to transport metals over long distance or urban/inter-urban routes and within a yard
- Ensure cargo is secured properly in accordance with safety requirements and follow safety procedures for transporting dangerous goods
- Perform pre-trip, enroute and post-trip inspection of vehicle systems, equipment and accessories such as tires, lights and turning signals and brakes
- Administer bills of lading and maintain logbook
- Communicate with dispatcher, other drivers and customers using communication devices
- Apply preventative maintenance and greasing, perform minor emergency roadside repairs
- Complete other paperwork as required
- Operate and perform in conformance with company processes and procedures

Education and Experience - Valid Class 1 license
- Clean drivers abstract
- Minimum of 5 years of commercial driving experience
- Proven working knowledge of proper load securement
- Previous experience hauling scrap metal materials is considered a strong asset
- Previous experience with shunt trucks and roll off trailers is considered a strong asset
