Role Summary

The Carrier Operations Analyst is responsible for the daily management of carriers, rail heads and Rivian Service Centers. You will interact with both downstream and upstream partners daily to ensure their needs are met. Good interpersonal skills and the ability to prioritize tasks are necessary. The opening is located in Normal, IL or Plymouth, MI and reports directly to the Manager of Carrier Operations. The ideal candidate is tenacious in execution and follow-up with a customer service mindset. Perseverance will be needed to overcome operational challenges and to set a course for cost optimization. A collaborative spirit is essential to partner with stakeholders and teammates.


Responsibilities

  • Drive carrier performance to ensure timely delivery and quality of finished vehicles using modes of truck, rail, and ocean. Tender loads to contracted and spot market carriers.
  • Input shipment data into TMS.
  • Ensure data integrity is maintained – YMS (yard management system) and TMS (Oracle transportation Management) are in unison. Daily auditing of reports and workbenches.
  • Coordinate capacity planning activities with carriers, railheads, and service centers.
  • Communicate carrier KPI results weekly & monthly and implement corrective actions as needed. Maintain a monthly cadence with assigned carriers.
  • Leverage data to identify exceptions or waste trends and work across teams to develop and measure corrective actions. Utilize root cause analysis to fix issues.
  • Identify, develop, document, and roll out logistics processes as needed.
  • Ensure safety procedures are established, communicated, and enforced.
  • Liaise with Purchasing and IT to onboard new carriers.
  • Manage Damage and Claims functions with assigned carriers.
  • Act as back up and support for other roles within the Outbound Logistics team. This includes supporting Yard and Rail Operations.
  • Act as a representative of Rivian to Industry Groups, for example, ALEC, the Automotive Logistics Executive Council.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in logistics, supply chain, or related field or equivalent experience required
  • At least 1 year of experience in logistics, transportation, supply chain or related.
  • Hands-on experience working with a Transportation Management System (TMS), and/or a Yard Management System (YMS).
  • Process oriented - uses a methodical approach to problem solving.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Advanced user in MS Excel – ability to create pivot table and charts, use of short cuts, and VLOOKUP.
  • Finished vehicle logistics experience a plus.
  • Experience with railroad shipping a plus.
  • Ability to travel up to 15% of the time.
